Considerations

  1. Biotech VC (focus on therapeutics/drugs) is becoming increasingly difficult without a PhD.
  2. You can, with massive effort get into biotech VC without a PhD… just remember that you are highly likely to be ineligible for the majority of credible funds (even after 5+ years of experience)
  3. You absolutely need a relevant bachelor's degree with a strong life science focus (Biology, Natural sciences etc)
  4. VC is competitive. Most roles receive a huge number of applications and it’s an easy decision to filter for elite universities and PhDs (I’m now seeing post docs)
  5. You really should be making an effort to build your extracurriculars
  6. This assumes you’ll be going for an analyst/associate entry role
  7. I haven't met many people who have got into VC via the ā€œoperational roleā€ pathway. This seems to be more of a US based thing.

PhD Routes

… Sometimes you can get lucky and skip the PhD and/or internship
