Considerations

  1. Biotech VC (focus on therapeutics/drugs) is becoming increasingly difficult without a PhD.
  2. You can, with massive effort get into biotech VC without a PhDā€¦ just remember that you are highly likely to be ineligible for the majority of credible funds (even after 5+ years of experience)
  3. You absolutely need a relevant bachelor's degree with a strong life science focus (Biology, Natural sciences etc)
  4. VC is competitive. Most roles receive a huge number of applications and itā€™s an easy decision to filter for elite universities and PhDs (Iā€™m now seeing post docs)
  5. You really should be making an effort to build your extracurriculars
  6. This assumes youā€™ll be going for an analyst/associate entry role
  7. I haven't met many people who have got into VC via the ā€œoperational roleā€ pathway. This seems to be more of a US based thing.

PhD Routes

ā€¦ Sometimes you can get lucky and skip the PhD and/or internship
